Haiti Comfort - Our Needs

ourneeds35

We will try to keep this page updated with our current needs, but the best way to know for sure is to email us at haiticomfort@hotmail.com. From time to time, we have needs, especially in clothing for our kids and supplies around the house. We can arrange shipment to Florida and return with a team coming here, us returning from a furlough or storage there until we acquire containerized shipping.

Here are a few specific projects we're looking for sponsorship for:

1. WE WANT A FULLTIME MISSIONARY! (or two!)
….no, you won’t be paid, but we will help you with fundraising that you can do. Get used to the thought that in the mission field, there are the senders and the sendees! Quite simply, 10K will suffice for a year. You can pick up a (new) small motorcycle for about $1000 or drive our van and dump truck and pitch in for their support!

You may have a vision and when you land here, you will quickly see that Haiti has plenty of needs. The options are endless for things to do and our plate is so full, that you will run your program, basically on your own. As far as here at the house, we really would like to kick our education program to a higher gear…..and we are teaching in English. You would be expected to assist in raising our kids and some operations here. We live in an 8 acre compound, with electricity and water, laundry and cooking and you will have your own room. Our home, when completed will be over 7000 sq ft.

I can’t say enough about the work we do ……it is extremely gratifying. Search your heart, bring it before God. I have talked to a person or two about the sacrifices you make, this country and your contribution to the Lord’s harvest. It’s not brain surgery, but vitally important stuff. It’s something you’ll never regret.

2. WE NEED TEMPORARY HELP!
Don't have money? Why not donate your time? We want mission teams. We’ve had a bunch of couples come down all this summer and they have lent a hand to Momma at the house and have done a lot of teaching, mostly reading, writing and arithmetic skills. Some men have been here and have helped us with construction as well. We have a myriad of projects that need to be undertaken and maintenance is constant. We also have gardens and animals that need tending.

3. WE NEED TO USE LESS DIESEL FUEL!
If you want to make a lasting impression that will help us save big bucks in the future, you can help us purchase a solar panel to replace our generator. A 130-watt solar panel costs about $945 a piece. We have 4, but have figured we will need 8 more to power the house. Batteries cost $130 a piece, and we need 8 so we can also have power at night. We would also like to add a second power inverter at the cost of $700.

These purchases will reduce our $600/month cost of fuel for the generator, and also extend the generator's life (which we would then only use for strenuous electronics, like the pump and washing machine).

4. WE WANT TO ENCLOSE ALL OUR LAND WITH A SECURITY WALL!
The wall is 1700 feet long with two vehicle gates and 10-12 feet high. Four years ago, it probably would have costed about $18.5K. Now, it's probably at least $25K. I have the contractor to do it, but I also have a crew that is able to do it for much less……augment that with a few mission teams and this could be a reality. The work goes relatively fast, building a foundation wall and topping it with block. I also own a dump truck, which really cuts the cost of hauling rock, block, cement and sand. Portions of this wall will begin in the summer of 2011.shakoun

5. WE WANT TO BUILD A SHAKOUN!
We have plans to build an 8 sided toddler play area, shaken (sha-coon). It’s 24 feet in diameter, full roofed and a secure play area for babies and toddlers. The cost is $2800 and would be a great project for a team to take on. It will be located at the edge of the entry courtyard.

6. WE WANT TO BUILD TALAPIA PONDS!
We have the support for several talapia ponds that we will install down by the river, on our property. We will be building a small house to raise fry (little fish) and concrete runway tanks. This project will put fish, safe for eating, in the local markets, plus provide employment for 6 Haitians. Food For The Poor, a large humanitarian organization will support feeding, schooling and the setup, but we have to build the ponds.

7. WE NEED A SOUND SYSTEM FOR EVANGELISM!
We're looking to replace our 16-year old stereo, which we use at the home for music, especially during Church on Sundays. We would like to buy a 500-watt PA sound system that we can transport and use with crowds up to 300-500 people, in addition to providing music and joy to our home. We will also need a microphone and a screen. It is about $1200 total for all of this. Of course, we will take used equipment.

8. PRAYER!
Don't feel you can't help because you don't have any money to spare. Then pray! We need lots of it. Please pray that we receive the money we need to continue. Pray for the health and happiness of our children. Pray for patience for waiting and working in this ministry. Praise God for all that he has bestowed upon us. We are ever-so-aware that people pray for us. We see the evidence every day.

God bless you... God thank you...
